In the recently online e-auction (35th E-auction) completed by Prasar Bharati, Mutliplex channel didn't able to won the slot on DD Freedish. Same slot won by NewsX TV channel.

But you don't worry this channel now temp. fta from SES8 satellite, you can tune your set-top box at this frequency to get back in your channel list.

Mutliplex channel is 24X7 Hindi movie channel which was added on DD Direct Plus last year on 20th Feb 2016.

The number of free TV viewership households in India is estimated to touch 46 million by 2020, a growth of over 50 per cent, mainly due to the rise of state- run DTH operator DD Free Dish, said a report by global consultancy EY.

The number of free TV viewership households in India is estimated to touch 46 million by 2020, a growth of over 50 per cent, mainly due to the rise of state- run DTH operator DD Free Dish, said a report by global consultancy EY. There were 30 million free TV households in the country in 2016. The growth in free TV viewership will be in addition to consumption of content on mobile digital terrestrial television (DTT) handsets, the report said. “The free TV market in India is poised to grow primarily due to the rise of DD Free Dish, which has now become the largest DTH operator in the country,” said the EY report, titled India’s Free TV – a game changing opportunity. DD Free Dish, the state-run DTH provider, is the largest TV distribution company in the country with over 20 million subscribers, more than national pay TV companies, which average 8 million to 16 million each. With over 80 channels currently, DD Free Dish plans to add 104 more by 2017-end and eventually take the count to 256 by 2020. The subscriber base of DD Free Dish is projected to reach around 40 million in the next 2–3 years.

DD earns Rs 85 cr from auction of 11 slots on its DTH platform

The auction of 11 slots of Doordarshan's direct-to-home (DTH) platform--DD Free Dish-- today earned the public broadcaster an amount of Rs 85.10 crore.

"Total 11 DTH slots were auctioned today...earned a total revenue of Rs 85.10 crore in a day," DG Doordarshan Supriya Sahu said.

In today's auction, three slots were for 'news and current affairs channels' with a reserve price of Rs 6.50 crore. For this category, the maximum and minimum bids received were Rs 6.70 crore and 6.50 crore respectively, she said.

On the other hand, eight slots were meant for 'non news and current affairs channels' with a reserve price of Rs 8 crore. For this category, the maximum bid was of Rs 8.40 crore, while the minimum bid was to the tune of Rs 8 crore.

As per data, 'DD Free Dish' currently reaches 22 million homes in India with a bouquet of 80 channels.

Next version of 'DD Free Dish' will provide 104 channels with set top boxes.

Star Sports to launch free-to-air sports channel

After its regional foray with Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports is set to launch India’s first private free-to-air sports channel, Star Sports First.

The channel will go on air on July 21 on DD’s FTA DTH platform Freedish. It will allow sports fans to watch their favourite sports in Hindi without paying any fee, a media release issued by Star Sports said.

The channel will also air VIVO Pro Kabaddi League Season 5 which will begin in Hyderabad on July 28. Its programme calendar will also include BCCI domestic cricket tournaments and domestic football tournaments, etc.

A Star India spokesperson said: “Television penetration in India has grown exponentially. We recognise that there is a very sizable subset of this universe that is not on conventional pay TV. In the `Free-to-air’ content that they have access to, sports content is mostly absent and only sporadically available. It is our belief that there is an eager appetite for it.”

Freedish capacity upgraded to 104 channels: I&B Min Smriti Irani

TelevisionPost.com / MUMBAI: Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani has said that public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has finished upgrading DD’s free direct-to-home (DTH) platform Freedish for 104 channels with new compression technology (MPEG 4). Presently, 80 TV channels with existing MPEG-2 technology are operational.

This upgrade has been done in line with the recommendations of Sam Pitroda Committee.

The rollout of MPEG-4 set-top boxes (STBs), which was expected by March-end, has got delayed. MPEG-4 STBs will have capacity to carry 104 channels compared to MPEG-2 STBs, which carry only 80 channels.

Responding to a question in Rajya Sabha, Irani further stated that the installation and testing of equipment for implementation of iCAS (Indian CAS) on DD Freedish DTH platform has been completed.

She also said that five Indian STB OEMs have been shortlisted to sell iCAS and DD-approved firmware/middleware-enabled STBs. New STBs with this technology and iCAS will be an integral part of the reception system for MPEG 4 channels.

AIR has replaced 35 MW and one SW valve-based transmitters with digital transmitters (DRM), which are capable of broadcasting in both analogue and digital modes.

Two SW valve-based transmitters are under replacement by digital transmitters (DRM). In addition, six old, high-power MW transmitters serving in LWE-affected areas are being replaced by new state-of-the-art MW digital-ready transmitters for strengthening AIR coverage in LWE-affected areas.

Further, 23 transmitters at 19 locations have been installed. Out of these, 16 transmitters have been commissioned. Their transmission could also be received by existing smartphones/tablets using a dongle with an app.

The resources cell of AIR is actively contributing to expanding the broadcasting market by offering Prasar Bharati infrastructure to private broadcasters/telecom operators, etc. at reasonable rates.

New Delhi: Centre has decided to use cartoons based on Indian culture, mythology and ethos to stop the cultural onslaught by kids' shows based on foreign characters. Doordarshan is launching its own kids specific channel soon.

DD Kids is an Hindi-language 24/7 cartoon television channel, owned by the government of India. Doordarshan is Planning to Launch Kids channel named as “DD KIDS“. This channel is expected to be launched on November 14, Children's Day.. The channel's test signal has started

The DD kids channel will broadcast cartoons and programmes that seek inspiration from Indian culture, history and heroes. It is understood that the issue of starting a kids channel came to the fore during the research for finalising DD free dish channel bouquet.
DG Doordarshan Supriya Sahu stated that the channel would plug the gap for kids slot in the DD free dish bouquet. As most of cartoons are foreign dubbed serials they do not show the true Indian culture and hence the need for such a channel.
There was demand from several quarters for a kids channel that could serve to the needs of the children based on Indian perspective. According to a report titled "The Effects of Cartoon Characters as Motivators of Preschool Disadvantaged Children," cartoon characters stimulate interpersonal behavior, learning and social growth. Children associate with cartoon characters more readily than adults in many cases and tend to retain the lessons imparted more readily.

Star Bharat on DD Direct Plus from 28th August 2017

Star India is reported to be rebranding Life Ok with a new look and name it Star Bharat. The channel, scheduled to launch on 28th August, Monday (6:00 PM), will have a modern outlook with an Indian feel, according to media reports. This is the second time the network is looking to rebrand the channel. Earlier in 2011, Star One was re-launched as Life Ok.

The channel is reported to also bring in new shows like Ayushamaan Bhava, Kya Haal Paanchal and Shatranj.

Star Bharat on DD Direct Plus from 28th August 2017

Shatranj, produced by Shakuntalam Telefilms, is supposed to be an Indian adaptation of Netflix’s iconic show House of Cards. Meanwhile Kya Haal Paanchal, by Optimystic Productions, is themed on polygamy and Ayushamaan Bhava is said to be a TV adaptation of Govinda starrer Hatya.

DD can't share sports feed with private dth or cable:SC

The Supreme Court has said that shared feed of sporting events can only be carried on the terrestrial network of Doordarshan or DD FreeDish.

The judgement would help private broadcasters like Star India from possible losses in subscription and advertising revenues due to sharing of signals with Prasar Bharati which were eventually carried by private DTH and cable operators. Immediately after the judgment became known, DD and PB officials went into a huddle to study the ramifications. A DD official declined to comment.

In a significant judgment, a division bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that, though the Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Act, 2007, allows the feed of a sporting event of national importance to be shared mandatorily with Prasar Bharati, the public broadcaster cannot utilise it on a notified channel which has to be compulsorily carried by private distribution platforms.
While the judgement enables Prasar Bharati to expropriate the feed, the private sports channels will not be competing against Prasar Bharati on a commercial basis for the same content.

Learn how does the DD FreeDish iCAS / MPEG-4 set-top box work?

As you know, the DD FreeDish service is now launching its set top box with iCAS encryption. These set top boxes are being produced or made by Indian manufacturers and will be available in your nearest market soon enough.

First of all we would have liked to see DD Free Dish iCAS / MPEG-4 set top box from above, along with its remote and power supply. If you do not see, you can see by clicking here.

Now you know what the menu looks like in the software and how it works, will you get the feature?

When you press the "OK" button from your remote, this is the channel list diagram of categories

First of all, let us first see that if you want to see the channel list in our DD FreeDish box than you will have to press the "OK" button from the remote and then you will see a list of above-mentioned channel lists. These channels list will show you the division. Like movie channels separate, news channels separate different etc.

Here you can lock, skip, move or edit the TV channel according to the colour code given in your remote. Where the red button in the DD FreeDish set-top box remote - to lock the channel, green button - to skip or to leave the channel, the yellow button - to change the location of the channel, and the blue button - to edit.
When you change the channel in your DD FreeDish, you will see the information like this. According to the colour button given in the remote - green button - to see the channel list according to the category, the blue button - to see the subtitle, the red button - is used to change the audio.
You will also be able to see the electronic program guide, which will give information about the upcoming activity such as the name and time of the work.

This is the first option of the DD FreeDish set-top box menu; from here you can change or set your set-top box language, system settings, display settings, time, reminder, lock etc.
This DD FreeDish is the second option of the set-top box menu, here you can move from radio service to TV service, and TV service from radio service to radio service.
This is the third option of the DD FreeDish set-top box menu. Here you will see two options, Antenna setting - You can power the LNB on or off. And Auto Scan - You can auto-scan the channels of DD FreeDish again. (There is no option for manual tuning)

This DD FreeDish is the fourth options of the set-top box menu; here you will find three options. I&B ministry to review channel slot auction process of Doordarshan’s free-to-air DTH platform DD Free Dish

Courtesy: livemint.com / New Delhi : The information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry has decided to review the channel slot auction process of state broadcaster Doordarshan’s free-to-air direct-to-home (DTH) platform DD Free Dish.

The ministry has asked the broadcaster to suspend e-auctioning of slots on DD Free Dish until further notice, two people familiar with the development said. The last e-auction took place in July, in which Doordarshan (run by Prasar Bharati) had earned Rs85.10 crore and awarded 11 channel slots to private broadcasters. Another auction scheduled for August was cancelled by the broadcaster, citing “administrative reasons”.

“The ministry has not given any reason behind this sudden decision. The slots on the platform are getting vacant and private broadcasters are not able to renew those. Prasar Bharati has been refusing renewal since August,” said one of the two people cited above, on the condition of anonymity.

Doordarshan holds an e-auction once every couple of months to award vacant channel slots on DD Free Dish to private broadcasters. At present, the platform carries 80 channels, including private entertainment channels like Star Utsav, Sony Pal, Zee Anmol, Rishtey and news channels like Aaj Tak, ABP News and News 24.

DD Freedish Auction Called Off, Private TV Channels To Lose Huge Ad Revenue

Following the decision of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to withdraw TV channel slot auction process from platform DD-Freedish, private TV channels are bound to lose huge advertisement revenue. It must be mentioned here that most of the big private TV channels have become FTA channels due to the availability of DD-Freedish reach at a nominal fee and as a result there was a sudden increase of their TRPs, directly also boosting their ad revenue. In fact few of private TV channels which are still a pay channel for private DTH platforms and cable operators have become FTA for DD-Freedish.

The last e-auction took place in July, in which DD-Freedish had earned Rs. 85.10 crore and awarded slots to 11 private broadcasters. Another auction scheduled for August was cancelled by the broadcaster, citing “administrative reasons” as per the notice dated 18.8.2017 (see letter).

DD-Freedish used to hold e-auction once in every couple of months to award vacant channel slots on DD Freedish to private broadcasters. At present, the platform carries 80 TV channels, including private entertainment channels Star Utsav, Sony Pal, Zee Anmol, Rishtey and news channels Aaj Tak, ABP News, Zee News, and News 24 to name a few. At present the platform has two vacant slots but the number will increase to about 10 by the end of this month if no decision is taken by the ministry.

TDSAT gives Prasar Bharati 2 days to respond to FreeDish auction suspension

NEW DELHI: Prasar Bharati has two days more to come out with the real reason for suspending the auctions on its DTH service FreeDish in August this year. From 27 October 2017 the telecoms and broadcast disputes tribunal TDSAT will hear two petitions challenging the decision of public broadcaster.

In the last hearing, the tribunal had told petitioners Cinema 24×7, (distributors of WOW Cinema), News Nation Network and others to file applications with Prasar Bharati. It had said it would hear the matter if not resolved by the pubcaster.

When the matter came up yesterday, only Cinema 24×7 (WOW Cinema) was represented by its counsels. Prasar Bharati, represented by Assistant Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, sought two more days to finalise the government and Prasar Bharati’s stand on the issue.

Soon after Smriti Irani became the Minister of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) few months back, the decision of halting the bids for FreeDish slot was announced. This came at a time when FreeDish was testing its MPEG4 technology in an attempt to encrypt the platform and also expand the number of TV channels that could be carried. At present 80 channels are carried on the FTA DTH platform.
